May is upon us and I hope everyone is doing as best as they can despite less than perfect circumstances.
Last Monday the WYWLA staff met to discuss a variety of items including how grades will be tabulated, We left with more questions than answers. Be patient and take the time to get informed on your options for final grades and when to submit requests for individual classes. As I get information I will forward it to you.
In the meantime, thank you to those that have been doing the assignments in a timely fashion and that have kept up with all of your classes. It is not an easy task to maintain a set schedule!
Should you have questions about grade options please address them to our admin team.

April 27, 2020
Dear parents and students-
I hope that you all continue to be well. I know this is not an easy time for anyone, especially essential personnel including medical staff that must report to work everyday and do their best in ever difficult scenarios. I am also aware that many of WYWLA families have been hit harder than others. Feel free to reach out to our staff and let us know how we can help.
Please continue to look for assignments and information regarding your Spanish 2 course here. There will be downloads to help you as we finish out the school year remotely. Thanks to everyone for uploading your work to your websites. Continue to meet deadlines. I encourage anyone needing help to contact me during office hours for additional support and/or assistance.
As many of you know, Governor Cooper and his staff outlined grade options for all public school students and their families to consider last week. The WYWLA staff will be meeting today to get further clarification and information about this and other pertinent topics. I will relay these via this page for you all.
Kindly,
Mr. di Carlo
April 2020
To students and parents of WYWLA-
It is my sincere hope that you all are ok in the company of loved ones during this difficult time. If you've not already bookmarked this page, do so now as you will need to access it frequently for work assignments.
I am sure your teachers have been contacting you and have been sharing information regarding teacher office hours, downloading, completing and submitting assignments, and other pertinent information. Wake County Public Schools System in connection with the Department of Public Instruction have advised teachers to continue grading assignments and uploading grades as usual. Until we hear differently, grades will continue to post as they had been prior to this hiatus. You are still responsible for submitting the work assigned in a timely manner. For this class, work will be assigned on Mondays and due on Fridays, unless otherwise noted. Other classes may have their own guidelines. I strongly suggest you keep a calendar and agenda of when items are assigned, due and when you should reach out to teachers for help.
Help for Spanish II will be available during office hours via email. You must use your wcpss email account otherwise I will not respond. Fill out the subject line in your email and ask your question(s) in the body field. I will answer these as quickly as I can from 1-2PM Monday through Friday. In most cases, expect a response within minutes. Check with your teachers for their office hours. You MUST maintain your websites as I will be checking them frequently to update your grades.
Mark your calendars! - April 10th and 13th are days off per our school calendar.
I know this is a struggle. Keep your mind active and get out and run, walk or do some other type of physical activity to take advantage of the beautiful weather we've been having.
Again, I hope you are doing well and that you continue to do so.
I encourage you to drop me a line and let me know how you are keeping active and how you what you are doing that is new and cool (that you wouldn't otherwise be doing during the school year). Streaming videos is not one of these things. The WYWLA Post (the online newspaper would like to feature some of you in our next edition!

This chapter we'll learn about your childhood and as a result we'll have to learn about the imperfect tense. El imperfecto refers to things we used to do or that we were, for example: I used to dance as a child = Yo bailaba de pequeno. Whether you still do it today or not ir IRRELEVANT since it only refers to the past. Keep this is mind.
Trabajo para el 20 al 24 de abril de 2020
El Imperfecto: Go to this StudySpanish.com link that describes what the imperfect tense is all about. Keep in mind that when you talk about your childhood, you are essentially saying things like: I used to be generous and kind as a child (to describe your personality in the past), My mom used to have long brown hair when she was young (for physical traits in the past) and When we were kids we used to go to the movie theater every weekend! (Like the first example, this one refers to being a child/kid but this one states what used to be done).
IMPORTANT: El imperfecto only refers to the past that you can state: I used to or I would (as in I would visit grandma' every weekend when I was a kid). Whether or not you still do it OR whether you still have long brown hair OR still are generous or kind or smart, etc., is a MOOT point since it only refers to the past, so don't get caught up on ...but I am am or still do!
Anyhoot, the StudySpanish.com link above is lesson 64 on the site. You should take the Basic Quiz for your own sake to make sure you are understanding what you are doing. Notice that the YO form and the EL.ELLA, USTED forms are IDENTICAL! Lesson 66 is also going to be very good for review.
These two worksheets should be a fun way to practice the Imperfect tense! Complete and upload them to your website! Does anyone still have a VCR at home? Bonus points for a Walkman!
Work for the week of April 27- May 1st, 2020
Thanks to the students that took the practice vocabulary quiz. I hope that it helped! I know it also contained some grammar too and that was purposeful to expose you to more than just vocabulary.
There will be a Google Meet this Tuesday at 10AM explaining the imperfect tense. For those unable to make it, I will upload a video by Wednesday morning. The code will be posted at 9:45 AM tomorrow.
There are some items attached below that you should complete and upload to your website by Friday at 3PM. Again, thanks for those that are consistently doing this. For those that are not, please do so today.
Visit the following websites to better understand the imperfect. This is the single-most important grammatical point you need to know for this chapter.
Like you have in the past, you will be asked to draw 10 images and narrate them on a video to your website! This time you should come up with TEN images that describe YOUR PERSONALITY, PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS when you were a child, that recount the activities you USED TO do as a child and what you USED to do. You have to option of choosing an age from 3-5 years old. Stick with this age throughout the drawings. It could be REAL or imagined. I will outline this during our Google Meet tomorrow.
Work for May 4-8, 2020
If you've not submitted your work from last week do so today. Email me with questions or comments.
For this week, you have two conjugation worksheets and a mini-project about your favorite toy as a child. If you DO NOT have it, you can make it up or do a narrated video with a stock photo of it. If you have it, FEATURE the toy (with you if possible in your video). You can also do one just featuring the toy (especially if you have a hair emergency like me!!!). Can't wait to get a haircut!
The two conjugation sheets will help you with your conjugations of the imperfect. I will upload answers this Wednesday afternoon. Be sure to upload your worksheets by this Friday. IF you get any wrong after checking them with the correct answers, simply mark them with a different color so you know you still need to practice them.
This activity below is a board game we would typically play in class. All you have to do is CONJUGATE the spaces where it asks for a conjugation. For example: She/ used to cook = cocinaba.
